Wi-Fi Alliance

The Wi-Fi Alliance is a barter affiliation that promotes Wireless LAN technology and certifies articles if they accommodate to assertive standards of interoperability. Not every IEEE 802.11-compliant accessory is submitted for acceptance to the Wi-Fi Alliance, sometimes because of costs associated with the acceptance process. The abridgement of the Wi-Fi logo does not necessarily betoken a accessory is adverse with Wi-Fi devices.

The Wi-Fi Alliance owns the Wi-Fi trademark. Manufacturers may use the cast to cast certified articles that accord to a chic of wireless bounded breadth arrangement (WLAN) accessories based on the IEEE 802.11 standards

Wi-Fi Direct specification

In October 2010, the Alliance launched a new spec called Wi-Fi Direct[8] that allows Wi-Fi-enabled devices to communicate directly with each other, without going through a wireless access point or hotspot. Some have suggested Wi-Fi Direct could spell the end for Bluetooth[9] for many applications.
